Olga Nicoara's Facebook profile

Bio:

I was born in a small provincial town in the Soviet Socialist Republic of Moldova in 1984, and grew up successively in Soviet Russia (Vladivostok, Primorsky Krai), transitional Moldova (Telenesti), and transitional Romania (Cernavoda). I received my BSc in International Economic Affairs from Bucharest Academy of Economic Studies in 2007.

Presently, I continue with my studies in economics and work as Graduate Student Fellow at Mercatus Center at George Mason University (GMU) in the US.

Prior to joining Mercatus I worked as a junior researcher at the Center for Institutional Analysis and Development (CADI), the top freemarket think tank in Bucharest.

My current research is focused on ex-Soviet developing economies, understanding the cause of                                                 their underdevelopment, and thinking of optimal market approaches to accelerate their growth.

Welcome to my weblog! As you will notice, my posts/thoughts are  focused on past and present experiences surrounding former-USSR societies primarily, and economic thinking about real-world phenomena in general.

Request: If you have lived in USSR or still live in one of the former-soviet countries and would like to share your past and/or present personal experiences under communism, or under transition, please contact me. If you would like to share a real-life USSR story you know from your grandparents or other elderly which you believe must not be forgotten, as well, please contact me.
